Today, at Hope Services, we stand united with the global community in recognizing and celebrating World Cerebral Palsy Day–shining a light on a condition that affects over 17 million individuals worldwide and impacts the lives of an additional 350 million people who are closely connected to a child or adult with cerebral palsy.<\/p>

Understanding Cerebral Palsy<\/h3>

Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a physical disability in which an individual experiences lifelong conditions affecting their movement and coordination. Many individuals with CP also grapple with related needs spanning vision, hearing, communication, and mobility. The extent of its impact can vary tremendously \u2013 from a slight weakness in one hand to an almost total absence of voluntary movement.<\/p>

It\u2019s crucial to acknowledge the complexities of this disability:<\/p>

  • 1 in 4 children with cerebral palsy cannot talk.<\/li>
  • 1 in 4 cannot walk.<\/li>
  • 1 in 2 have an intellectual disability.<\/li>
  • 1 in 4 have epilepsy.<\/li><\/ul>

    The Origins and Goals of World Cerebral Palsy Day<\/h3>

    Starting in 2012, World Cerebral Palsy Day became a beacon for global unity. Last year alone, this movement reached over 10 million people. Its mission is undeniably significant \u2013 to unite individuals living with CP, their families, well-wishers, and organizations from more than 100 countries. This collective strives for a world where children and adults with cerebral palsy enjoy the same rights, access, and opportunities as every other member of society.<\/p>
